getting an ABN is free. Just go to the ATO website and you should find the online application form.

You can do that no probs, but they expect you to be trading in the short term, and we don't expect to be trading before the end of the year. Might be an earlier than planned necessity though

You can always lodge a nil activity statement.

Also many businesses don't trade at first. For example if you where to start a commercial AP system how many months would it be before you had any plants to sell?

If I was to start a commercial AP business I would be the only person ever that the government offered money to to quit my ABN...seriously, you are right, I think in my wife case it's a wait until the new financial year and avoid tax return time this year

Don't play around with it too much when it is broken, I find that the more you try to fix it , the worse it will become.

If it is working now, buy a plugin called backup buddy. It costs you a little, but it is probably the best backup for wordpress that I have used. Also, you can back up to the cloud so that is very handy.

Thanks for the SEO tips Continuum, it's really helpful to me :thumbright: We've looked at registering the .com.au but apparently you have to have a registered business name and an ABN or be one of various other catagories which we don't fall under (ATM), if we use godaddy are we able to bypass the ABN route?

It costs $70 here in VIC to register a business name. I find it is well worth the peace of mind. You then get a registered business name that you can use.

The article I was referring to before is at
http://www.news.com.au/technology/onlin ... 6959630872

Read it and you will see that a little cost at the beginning will save a lot at the end.

You will need the .com.au name to make sure that no one takes it and optimises above you.

I had an extra excerpt showing up under the featured post on the first page, found out that I had "post offsets" set to zero instead of one, fixed now :)

Thanks Continuum, we bought a backup service along with the hosting package, backs up every 24 hours.
Had a look at the article you posted and showed it to the missus, she went into panic mode   so we will be getting the ABN 1st July and securing the .com.au site :thumbleft:

Wordpress SEO by Yoast is a FANTASTIC plug in. Really helps boost hits. I'd also recommend that all the photos are labelled and have good metadata that ping back to the site. Most photo editors should have this capability.

She should also look at photo sizes, they're a tad on the small side (but very good) and centre-aligning them.

Personally, I really want to extend the header as I think it stops abruptly...even a quick photoshop job to fill the off-white colour all the way across the page. I'd also remove the "meta" box from the side panels.

Remember, photos are MONEY in blog land. My favourite blog is YoungHouseLove.com - if you look at the quantity, size etc of photos and the white space, you'll get a good idea about successful blogs.

First off, get rid of the Meta links. They are typically not used and they don't serve much purpose to most visitors. Is this the wordpress application where you can install widgets or is this the hosted Wordpress.com account through the Wordpress.com website? If it is the latter, then you will find that you cannot install any of the thousands of widgets that really let you optimize the website. I've built about a dozen Wordpress sites and the widgets really help make your site not look like the thousands of other wordpress sites out there.

I would also think about getting rid of any reference to wordpress so you can make the site look more like a custom built and maintained site.

As to SEO, I would recommend you download and install the All in One SEO Pack plugin. This allows you to set your SEO description and keywords on each post so the META tags are available to the search engine spiders and bots. If this is not the Wordpress.org application that you are hosting then you will have to use the SEO options available to you by the programmers who maintain the Wordpress.com site.
