Was going to do a bit of painting, just sealing the edges of some plywood for my latest improvement project.

Anyhow its a cold and rainy day and the paint can was an old one that I found in my paint stash, I thought better to warm the paint up a bit so after being in some warm water for a bit I added some more hot water, must have overdone it as when I picked the can up it was hot to touch. Gave it a bit of a shake and was just thinking this may be too hot.....

Hahaha, that is very funny, Slowboat. We can laugh but it could well have turned out not a laughing matter at all. You were lucky.

Gotta love those shiny black toes, haha: best laugh I've had all of this wet and drab day so thanks.

How hot was it?

I'd have thought it'd need to be red hot to do that.

And yes, best toe shot ever.

Reminds me of a bloke at work trying to prank another workmate.
He'd briefly developed a habit of tack welding other peoples' tools to benches to bother them and had the bright idea of tacking a can of cold gal paint to a bench.
We now call him "Tinman". (He was both silver and wished he had a brain).

While I admired the toe shots I was horrified until I read this bit.

An old neighbour nearly killed himself warming some paint in winter by placing it on the stove. Needless to say it didn't end well.

Fortunately for him and his son they had stepped out of the kitchen when the ROOM exploded. The whole house was a fire ball in minutes.

Any thoughts on a thread title for this one? Darwin awards perhaps? :) I'm sure there are plenty of things people can add.

Big thanks for sharing slowboat.... I'm laughing but cringing at the same time..... :laughing3:  :support:

Well just so you don't feel so bad, I'll tell you about a "what not to do" I had a couple of weeks ago. I don't have any photos, but.... I was whipper snipping the long grass out the back near one of my systems, when an electrical pump cable became wrapped around the head of the whipper snipper, it had been hidden in the long grass. Without thinking to much I dropped the motor end to the ground and started pulling the cable from around the head of the whipper snipper. I was a little concerned about the shipper snipper hurting my hand, thinking as I yanked at the wrapped cable that I should have probably turned off the motor before I started playing with the business end of the machine..

As I was pulling the cable off and unraveling it, the bit I'd grabbed in my hand felt rough, as I released my grip on it I saw why. when it had wrapped around the head of the machine, the cable insulation had worn away because of the spinning head, I had my hand wrapped around the bare conductors normal encased within the cable.... :geek:

My lucky day. It was the old pump that was sitting on the grow bed stand, it wasn't plugged into the power. If it had been plugged in, I probably wouldn't be here. I learnt a valuable lesson that day. :naughty:

You forgot "if I didn't have all my AP circuits protected by earth leakage devices/RCD/safety switches."

You do have them all protected, dont you? ;)

Everyone should make sure they do- they are a real life saver for exactly this sort of incident, or split/worn/frayed pump cords in the water etc.

I was digging through old photos from another thread, and I've got one that fits in here perfectly.

I'm very slowly restoring an old ute, and put it up on a rotisserie so I could weld in new patches underneath:

Image

The rotisserie hooks onto the bumper bolts, and spins from that. In a 50 year old car, the unknown to me, the bolts were rotted through on the inside. When I pulled the whole thing down, the frame fell off.
Image

So I spent countless hours underneath this heavy car, spinning it, and not giving it a second though, when I was very, very close to having the whole thing fall down on top of me.
