I had a call today from, ‘The Men in Grey’;
In the UK if you want to sell fish or veg, ‘produced in an Aquaponics system’ you have to register. No fee or inspection. Unusually you cannot do this on line. So I duly filled in the form and posted it. A large embossed A4 certificate arrived. I am a registered fishery. Whoopee!
Today the phone rang. I have had a request from Bla de Bla fishery for a movement of Perch under section 30 of the act to your premises.
Erm. Yes Sir. How many? 25 Sir. Right 25,000 pe... No 25 Sir Oh! 25. What do you intend to do with them? Erm, eat them Sir. OH!
Where do you discharge your water? Erm.. Ermm It evaporates Sir! Oh!
Yes, Sir It is a closed loop system. How do you fill it? It rains Sir. Oh
I will have to check but I don’t think you will need a section 30 permission.
Thank you Sir.
Titus

Make sure they do check and do get back you or at the very least document your call, who you spoke to and what they said.

Regulation is generally fine when its enforced by reasonable people but at a later date if you fall afoul of someone on a power trip it can get very ugly for you.

Generally if you are a "good citizen" you won't get into too much trouble but you don't want to have to go to court to hear a magistrate say that you haven't done anything wrong and that the beuracrat in question shouldnt be wasting the courts time as satisfying as that may be

Titus - as a curiosity - Why do you consider that you want to SELL the fruit of your labors..

Were you thinking "Farmer's Markets" or similar,

or is it really a case of if you want to GIVE away a tomato, you need to be registered..

If that is the case , then I would persist in getting that approval..

As suggested - you can't leave bureaucrats to interpret the rules.. if the RULES are explicit..
..

Hi BuiDoi
Yes. I have a weekly farmers market 100 mtrs from my house. I plan to sell watercress to this very local niche market. Saturday morning at the market. Saturday afternoon in the pub. My retirement plan.

I did consider standing in a cold shower tearing up £10 notes and banging my head on the wall but the wife complained about the noise and Aquaponics is more of a challenge.

The approval is automatic. What they really want to monitor IMHO is water discharge and movement of non- native species. I have no problem with any of that. Call me old fashioned but I want to do it properly.

Non native species?

I thought English Perch where from...eh...England :dontknow:

I know they call them Eurasian Perch on the continent but that is because of the French forgetting Waterloo and Trafalgar.
