I posted a comment on their 'Become a Millionaire on One Acre with Aquaponics' article.

Indeed just another Web site, constructed to create a market and in this case, to make it appear they have invented something..

They are not likely appreciative of anyone suggesting their ideas are common knowledge, and others have been doing it for years without thinking it a scientific discovery...

IMHO... There is more here on BYAP to learn than at their :geek: UNIVERSITY..

Okay I don't like these people... They keep claiming they invented all this stuff that already exist...

They invented the water pump, sump tank, auto siphon, and claim they did and invented a lot of other stuff.. Which they never did...

Yesterday's typical phone call brings that to mind...

"Bloody Liar" was my response and his was . "OK"..

I know a chap who had his KOI pond plumbed to a formed Garden Bed... that was back in about 1980..
He had no name for it.. It just worked.. and more importantly, it had been working for much of his life.. he was about 80 back then..

Good on you Gnoll

Thanks for your support. Great to get conformation from a commercail niche operator, like yourself.

Just been looking at you site. Impressed that you've taught aquaponic courses with Dr. James Rakocy & Dr. Wilson Lennard.

Great essay and pics of the greenhouse/tank house build. The Lennard influence really show. :thumbleft:

My 5,000 to 10,000 sqft niche upper limit came from the above Lennard YouTube from a conference in Hawaii.

LOL. Would be interesting to see someone try to keep that system up. Would take a lot of managemnet and buffers. Can't imagine the fish would be too happy/healthy either.

I actually found the Millionare post, from Google. Hadn't looked around the site at all when I made the comment. Was just a commercial be careful about the industry generally. Wasn't expecting it not to be publish. Must really fear 'investors' understanding what the real risk and rewards of the commecial side of the industry are.

Between BYAP and Googling and YouTubing Dr. James Rakocy & Dr. Wilson Lennard there's a lot of good solid info.

Why would that be.. (now I have yet to watch the videos)... ???
the thin layer of agg' could be beneficial if the flooding was sufficient..
Would it not mean that produce removal would be easy (no deep roots)... just rip it up and shake out the agg '..

The comment about buffers, seems counter-intuitive as I have many kgs of broken limestone in my upper sump.. Calcium Carbonate... just what you add to buffer the system..
The only issue for it's use in GBs is that in time it will dissolve to finer Agg'... :(

No, I think that limestone would be good as an Agg, apart from it's sharp and angular and unpleasant nature.

Quote:
.Limestone is a sedimentary rock composed largely of the minerals calcite and aragonite, which are different crystal forms of calcium carbonate (CaCO3). Most limestone is composed of skeletal fragments of marine organisms such as coral or foraminifera...

In the many years that I have bred fish and abused them badly (according to the experts), the one thing consistent, was that I have always had massive amounts of line stone in their system... perhaps just coincidental ...

Aquashiester

I like that..
Don't forget that some of these folk are likely applying for generous Government grants, and need to fool the unknowing, that their INVENTION could solve the world's' food problems..... be carbon neutral.... Sustainable... and practical...

So open a commercial system with a coffee-shop and you can really impress the folk with your name badge.. as you take them on inspections (paid, naturally)

AQUISTA & BARISTA.. :geek:

That looks much better.

Well we have seen people on this forum take their information at face value and then attempt to defend it. Quite passionately to.

On the censor ship thing yes it is censor ship but since it is their site they are allowed to censor if they want to. Joel has the same right here its just that he doesn't exercise it very often and almost always for very clear well defined reasons.

Unfortunately there is usually always someone who is going to try and capitalize on others creativity and innovation, this seems one of those times.

I had a read through the emails and their website and one thing that really struck me was their defensiveness, which at times borders on rudeness.

I tend to think if you are a business owner that one of the best things you can do is take the time to explain things to people when they ask. Even if you have said it a hundred times, if you have someone questioning you and you truly believe in your product, then you take the time with that individual. Doing so tends to give the potential customer a good feeling, more confidence in your product and will help to end in a sale. Even if they will never be a customer, word of mouth is even more of a factor with the internet playing such a large part.

But what I read was a lot of what looked like impatience, passive aggressiveness and similar. Even if certain information is available on your site, when someone asks about it, it really doesn't show a good side if you brush them off and just tell them to look and read. If people are asking about your product, then you should always be willing to answer questions about it, be it in person, on the phone, or online.

I think manners can go a long way in business, as in life. Leaving people with a bad taste in their mouth from simply interacting with you does no favours for your business.
