Great news.

Just remember all your hard drives will fail (whether it is tomorrow or in 5 years time) so always make sure you have 2 copies at any one time (external - or backup- drives fail more than most, so make sure you have your data (especially photos) on 2 drives at once.

I hope all is going well on the other fronts as well.

Many people use the cloud now, I've been working on computers since the 80s and have seen backup methods come and go. These days for me it is mostly passwords I need saved, everything else is on my website, so I try not to worry with whatever happens to my home system. It always takes it two tries to boot in the morning. Something is is the wind.

My eldest Daughter turned off the power to my system some time yesterday.

Had a hard time at work so didn't check on things before night fall and found a bunch dead this morning.

So had to do an impromptu harvest.

Largest was 1130g after gutting. My larger scales have died so I've had to use the medical ones that only go up to 1000g.

Total of 125kg cleaned and gutted fish.

Yes rather.

I forgot to explain about the scales. There was about 20 fish over 1kg and 10 over 1kg dressed. To get the weight of the ones that were still over 1kg dressed we weighed the head and tail and body separately.

All the heads and tails came off so we could fit them in the freezer.

At least they were at harvest time!

Have many left? Or room in your freezer?

At least the meat did not have time to go bad. It sucks but could have been worse.

Sounds like an accident but I'd be making that switch a bit more inconvenient :headbang: . Glad you were able to harvest them instead of having to pitch them Stuart.

Just lost power and I went out to check on the system. Turns out the backup system didn't fail.

We have had chronic water shortages due to very little rain over summer and autumn and it was becoming increasingly obvious that the liners that I had planned to last for 5 years were failing after 7. If we had had more water I could have kept topping it up but we didn't.

Consequently I had been winding the water levels down in the raft tank. I had designed the system to be able to do this so that the raft tank could act as water storage as well as plant production. The idea being that the time between needing to add external water could be extended. This idea has worked and in the next system will be incorporated to allow for the catchment and storage of rain water without the need for separate storage tank. Well at least less of them anyway.

What I had not taken into account was that the lower water level reduced the back pressure on the air lines so when the smaller backup pump was running air was going in to the floating raft tank and not the fish tank.

Dufus mistake.
