Recently I have received a number of emails purporting to be from Paypal.

They advised my account had been limited due to the new security and I think unusual log activity (they even had a case id no).

I am not very trusting on emails so I rang Paypal, they were false so just be aware everyone. :)

A good practice I follow, never click any link inside an email from anything to do with money (paypal, ebay, amazon, banks). Always go direct to the website itself.

@Colum - Good practice, thanks for sharing. I will be sure to adopt it. :notworthy: :notworthy:

Those have been around for ages, the clue is they are not addressed to you, but rather are a more general dear paypal user etc.

they are getting sneakier. I got one today for a receipt of payment for a Kindle purchase to an Aussie seller. Looked very authentic, the ebay listing and seller are both real. Only the link that says "to cancel this payment please click here" redirects somewhere else.

i usually hover over the links and see what address its actually sending me too (found down the bottom).
more proffesional jobs can look very much like the real thing, but they cannot hide where that link is sending you to.

I quite often hit the reply button 20 or 30 times and never hear from them again :D

That may work Jo, but its quite dangerous too.
it tells them its a verified email address and they are usually likely to add that to many more spam lists.

Yabbies the only reason I posted this was it came straight after a legit message from paypal re account limitation/security and was very close to the original; they are getting smarter. :)
