I didn't know we had Tilapia in Oz?

Bastards!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ppqzqXvxecA <- not a video of people introducing them, just of some lads hunting them with a bow.

I take it that really is Tilapia???

Apparently there is a virus that might be introduced to take out the carp from our waterways.

Imagine the Murray full of native fish again.

Tilapia established in quite a few places in QLD including quite a few dams.

Is on the declared list - must kill and dispose at least xx metres from water.
cannot be removed from site or transported.
must not be used as bait etc etc.

I had no idea.

I'm a big anti-fan of the death penalty, but I could be convinced when it comes to a very few who thought bringing some beasts and plants in from home might be a good idea.

Bastards!

No idea, but I welcome all the education anyone can offer as part of my normal embracement of life.

(really??? embracement is a word? My spell checker didn't freak out at all)

Closer to home somebody apparently released a bunch of carp into the new wetlands near the Salisbury highway. From what I can understand most of the water comes from road runoff, or from places that don't have carp, yet a few years later and the place is full of them.

I went carp fishing the other day in a suburban pond, there were some monsters in there gulping at all the bread that was being fed to the ducks by my wife and child but none took my hook... I had a big bucket with me in case I managed to snag a giant goldish for the aquaponics - the main reason for my fishing adventure!
