[quote="Outbackozzie"]Lost 8 fish in the earthquake, the percussion must have shocked them or something :

Were they Trout OBO???
I once lost a few trout when I did some compacting fairly close to some fish tanks the day before. The Silvers in a nearby tank were uneffected. I know fish are sensitive to vibrations and it seems that excessive vibrations can even kill them!! Anyone else ever experienced any fish deaths in this way??

i know of a nice way to fish without a fishing poll

this is a trick of native americans in the Sierra Nevada mountains:

trap the trout in a small area, and throw a big rock right next to them, the shock stuns them and they will go belly up for 30sec or so...it just might kill them to

Yeah all Trout. Silvers and Bream are all ok. The Bream enjoyed their Trout morsels.

So earthquakes kill trout. Interesting, from a scientific point of view. Sad from an owner's point of view. :(

Glad you and yours are ok OBO. Lucky only one person injured from the region, eh. Adventure.

Been little aftershocks all day, no more dead trout, even with the water temp hitting 25!

Kal is huge place now. I used to work in Coolgardie in 1985 and visited Kal regularly. I was shocked when I stayed there a couple of years ago. It has grown so much and there are some huge new houses there. That place is packed with people and dont think you can just rock up and expect a hotel room without booking even out of season!!

Col did you say to the Missus "Did the earth move for you to Babe" glad to hear all is ok with you guys, News story is always bigger when a Pub gets Damage :dontknow:
Maybe you get a hardship damage claim on the lost trout, but seriously lucky it didn't shake to pieces, maybe the temp affected them, seems odd that vibrations do, came back from TM's on some gravel road that hadn't seen a grader for a while and trout got a lot of vibrations and all survived the trip :dontknow: the couple of big pot holes may have equaled a 5 earth quake

I know a sudden startle or bang can cause the catfish to hit a tank wall pretty hard. Perhaps the ones that died were the ones facing the tank wall at the time of the bang and they hit the wall in their startelment harder than the others.
Hopefully the survivors won't let the aftershocks bother them.

BOOM!!!!

We just copped it again this morning and I was right in the middle of it!

Quote:
KALGOORLIE-Boulder has been shaken by a magnitude 4.6 earthquake which struck about 8am today.
The quake, centered 30km west of Kalgoorlie with a depth of 15km, was the second largest in the historic goldmining town’s history, after a magnitude five struck in 2010.

In Geoscience Australia’s finalised data, it revised the magnitude of the earthquake down from 4.7 to 4.6.

The federal government agency said the quake could have been felt by people up to 113km from the epicentre and may have caused damage up to 9km away.

Heres a pic of the area, I am working at the blue arrow. Man it was powerful, threw earth and rock off the mine pit walls right before our eyes and felt like the ground was going to cave in. The usual mine closures around the area as we are still feeling after tremmors. I wouldnt be surprised if damage has occured in town again and there is still a lot of work going on from 2010.

Crap, I still have clients suffering from the last one.
Insurance companies used everything they could to get out of claims, doing impaction testing on 40 year old houses to see if the ground under slabs was still compacted to standard etc.

Good luck Kal!

Rumors is there hasn't been much damage by this one around town, I suppose the last one loosened everything up. Wish I had my phone ready to film it because you just cant explain the power of the earth moving. So strange.
