Kangaroos tell stories? ;-)

Tenderness is not the problem with roadkill, you can make any meat tender, as you said, but the blood that has slowly seeped into the flesh can seriously colour the flavour... I guess slow cooking might mask that too, but there's no way I'd eat a steak from roadkill again.
Some ppl might like the flavour, but then I hate black sausage/pudding, so it's hardly a surprise that poorly bled meat lacks appeal.

Sounds like you need to cook road kill with a brick. Once the meats ready through it away and eat the brick. :rr:

Nah, I think Jessy may be onto something, and I may just try it... Providing the kill is recent enough that is... I don't think I could cook anything that had congealed already, not without visiting Jesse or some1 else first and having them show me how it's done, and what it tastes like ;-)

Call us boring in Onslow, but apart from fishing, shooting, gardening, work, tinkering with cars or drinking like we support the Carlton Brewery ( :? )
the only other thing to do is go scabbing at the tip :thumbright:

It is amazing what people throw out there. Brand new mobil phones, cordless drills, condue, heaps of great stuff. Last time I went on a walk around the tip, we found 3 cartons of beer :notworthy: go figure !!! people actually throw Beer away

I have seen people with a portable gen set, taking peices of cars of, to fix there own.

The more remote the tip I recon, the better the treasures you can find. Pannawanica and Parrabudoo tips are ment to be the best in our area

That's one of the things I miss! Spent many an hour scrounging at the tip growing up. :hello1:
Now living in the city we have recycling depots where they go through it all and sell it in the shop at the front gates.

At least it's going to charity and is really cheap!

Well it seems most of you are out in the boondocks, not that that's a bad thing, but I'm in an urban environment. I have squatted ware houses, and abandoned buildings and such living situations.

A ware house I lived in in San Francisco was pretty much made inhabitable through scrounging. THat includes building the floor for the second floor of the building and all the walls for the rooms that were created. It included the kitchen completely, and even found a washer and dryer set that fit into a closet.

I'm not below driving up and down the alleys when I have a vehicle and grabbing crap out of people's trash that can be used for projects or useful around the house. The vast majority of my furniture was grabbed off curbs and then reassembled.

I also do dumpster dive from time to time for food. It's amazing what you can find. Canned food that has been dented. Meat that's just at expiration that you can smoke or can or eat that day. Veggies that can be consumed days later. Unfortunately Whole Foods here in California now composts everything so they suck.

There's a pizza joint here that throws out all their pies every night. You can have a feast off that with a bunch of people with no problems, as long as you don't mind that it's not in the standard pizza slice shape.

There are dump days here where people put out all there big or strange trash. It sits on the road for days and the scavengers go through it. When I was in college we would spend hours driving around digging through trash. I got a big screen tv, full set of golf clubs plus extras, lawn furniture, lamps, bicycles, ect. I ride my bike alot and find all sorts of tools on the road. Especially sockets and wrenches.

Just scored a rubber maid clothing container, might use that for a grow bed. I also scored two perfect 4' by 8' pieces of ply wood.

walked the dogs the other day and found a D shackle lying in the middle of the road :) but have also found heaps of 1/2 " spanners and 1 full sheet of form ply (8' x4') :)
I also scored an electric blower a few years ago on a fire call out, someone had dumped a heap of grass clippings by the side of the highway and the blower was under neath them, they had cought on fire some weeks later and while we were putting the fire out (kicking apart the piles of grass) I found it buried by grass, still works too :)

I was at the markets today and bought some bananas for $2, when I picked them up the bag broke (bloody plastic) and they hit the floor, when I picked them up their was $2 on the ground under them. Free bananas.

The other day I found a double album LP record on the side of the road, in very good condition and plays some rather lovely classical music. Just what my nerves needed.

Next door neighbour just asked if I could find something to do with a bit of junk he was cleaning out of his yard.
So am now the owner of a couple of 3500 litre tanks plumbing and pumps

dont quite know what I'm going to do with 3 * 2HP 3 phase pumps - the little fish might have a hard job fighting the current!

Tanks are 2150mm diameter and 1 metre high with open top and a 100mm lip around the top edge so will be ideal for fish tanks

Will make a bit of differece from the little blue barrels I've been experimenting with.
got no excuse now not to get the rear into gear and do something more than tinker.

Got the hoop frames for a couple of 5* 10 metre greenhouses so now just have to find some time to get moving

John
