I live in a rental, and today had some contractor come to my house to replace the smoke alarm battery.

I'm guessing his call out fee was $30 per house given he would have been contracted to do hundreds of them, and it was a two minute task, and me needing to be home didnt cost me anything (I work from home) but for most other people in the economy, that's another $160 given the window the gave us.

The battery cost another $9* via Kogan if you bought it retail.

We are getting very close to $200 worth of lost humanity for a battery that went into the bin (or would have).

The battery showed 10.11v when I first tested it, then dropped to 9.67 after I shorted it it for a few seconds.

It's back up to 9.92v in the time it's taken to write this.

I think that means that it's basically a brand new battery.

His full time occupation is throwing them into the bin. He probably has to pay to dump them, so if you know one of theses dudes, or just need a shipload of free 9v batteries for student projects or something, look up your local rental management company, and hit them up for the name of the dude with all the batteries.

I'll find out who ours was and try to find homes for them all.

9.95v and climbing

[*$5.50 at coles, but I was trying to hit the $200 of wasted life mark for dramatic effect]

His call out fee would be more than $30 I imagine so that would put you well up into the $200 range.. :) Here in W.A. whenever a house is sold or is used as a rental it must have mains connected smoke alarms. The battery changing man's days are numbered.

You're welcome, but...

I have to say, I've lost a little sleep over your choice of gif.

Still haven't slept yet :)

Sure.... but going for that dramatic effect was still worth it :)

How else am I going to get anyone to read my shi[p]. You should see my facebook posts :)

The last one referred to punching a ram that was trying to kill me, and required this link (you can figure out the rest (family safe link)) ...
