Looks interesting but needs a NIR Laser Diode...

Yes, yes, I have already thought in that, the next step, that i have already mentioned, the calibration.

I will put my spectroscope into a biggest black box, and i stabilize it than I put a light (variable colour LED, and Infra Led, UV-led, maybe Lazer) oposit the gap.

Maybe It will need a filter, or a potentiometer, because the light will be strong.

The serious biological spectrophotometers follow this structure too. :) and those cost more more $ :D And off course those are very precise...

But we can do it only from litter :D :D
i never understood the expensive world...

:D Yes, we will be the most famous namelesses, if it works :D

So, what to use as diffraction grating?
I'm guessing that part is critical and possibly needs to be optically precise, but maybe not.
This stuff is way off my field, the electronics I have no problem with, lots of experience.
But the opto side, not a clue :)

I really think an API Freshwater Master Test Kit (800 tests) @ $45-$50.... would work out an aweful lot cheaper...

$50 and job done... or massively complicated, unnecessary brain strain incorporating much cranial fornication... hmmm

But if it's within one's capability to do it, why not?
The cost and the complexity are not important :)

Because you'll be wasting one's beer drinking time... wasting one's beer drinking money... and possibly straining one's brain... unnecessarily... you only get so many brain cells you know, and if you implode them they don't grow back!

P.S. Why have we not got a beer drinking emote?... :dontknow:

I think it's too expensive to R&D on this.
better buy available sensor on the market.
Except if you want to do mass production.

The diffraction grating is a simple CD, or DVD...
When you see the light on a CD you can see, the rainbow...that is the spectrum...

What is so expensive in that? the CD? :) the webcam?, or the willkinson blade, for the interference gap, or the LEDs, maybe the cardboard, or the glue? :)

The result:

The webcamspectroscope works! :)

Here are the pictures in a PDF:

The next step is coming!

What fun!
Long download, but worth the wait.
So what is your next step?

Yes, i want to upload here, but i can't...its 16M...
if the scibd will finish the repair, i will upload there...

The next step->I will put my spectroscope into a biggest black box, and i stabilize it
than I put a light (variable colour LED, and Infra Led, UV-led, maybe Lazer) oposit the gap, and develop a place for the samples between the light source and the gap.

But unfortunately i don't have much free time..soo it wil be later...
I have to work, and learn, í'm writing my thesis

It would be great, if some people, who would like to experiment, try to build that.
It is really easy, and cheap.

The only thing is can be difficult...set the angle of incidence of the light
