They are going with Murray Cod because they can have more per cubic metre. The cod will like that. :shark:

my favourite bit is how the plants won't be exposed to insects... obviously they have not actually had anything to do with a real live AP system

1200kg of fish ... PER WEEK ... to feed the mine staff....

That's 62,400KG of Murray Cod a year... that's about 3-4 times the entire current production of Murray Cod Australia wide....

And would require at least 100,000 fingerlings per year.... about what is currently produced under the $ for $ restocking program....

And all this in earthen aquaculture ponds... with somehow some "aquaponics" thrown in....

A hatchery and grow out facility... all in one...

Tell him they're "dreaming" son....

That's a 10-20 person operation... probably about $5-$10 million startup... and annual running costs of at least $2 million....

Processing and refrigeration facilites... for about $15-$30/kg.... the figure they quote is "live" restaurant trade....

And all this is based on a "little" aquaponics experiment... that the "learnt" from... and are going to "scale up"...

FFS....

To put it into perspective...

Taylor Made produces about 600kg of Barramundi per week....

Where you get your figures from Rup??
In 2008 Murray Cod production was 86 tonnes in Aust and I recon that figure would be much higher now.
As EB says their is a lot of talk out there but not much action. There are two proposed large fish farms in the pipeline down near me but even after a few years not a single dam has been dug. Over the same period however all the guys doing Barra in recirc systems have closed up due to the increase in electricity prices.
