whats the dia of the hole on the side of the bell (just above the crenelations? How is it better than the 6 mm tube one normally uses?

Simo,
Don't bother to answer that. Found it in your other thread! 25mm elbow! I must say, your siphon looks very neat!

Hey there Simo!
Nice work and thank you for the contribution!

I was wondering is there an elbow under the stand pipe or does it lead straight into the bigger drain pipe beneath? BEcause i couldn't get the siphon working(starting and stopping properly) if there was no elbow or pipe reduction under the standpipe(under the GB).

Thank you!

drains straight out, the side port on my bell is just because my GB drain out the side thought another elbow down to the drain pipe. There is no water trap or restriction other than the eblows it should work just draining straight down as the funnel creates all the restriction you need.

The good thing about science is that you don't have to believe in it for it to be right.

Check out this other thread on Siphons if you haven't already. Pretty instructive.

Hi, Thanks for the guidance.

I have problem with my siphon. It stops when water level down about 1/4 from top and raise up again so it never reaches the growbed bottom.

What cause of this problem & how to solve it?

Thanks in advance
Samuel

If you are talking about a bell siphon, then the only reason I could see for the siphon to stop once it initiated, is if air is being drawn into the bell, breaking the vacuum.

What sort of fittings/plumbing do you have underneath the siphon?... Can you upload photo's of all the components, ie: the bell and the fittings/pipework exiting the siphon (ie: the drain under the grow bed)

Hi there,

I'm totally new to AP. This is even my first post. (I'm actually nervous! :shifty: ).

I'm wondering if it's better to pull water from the bottom of the FT rather than just using an overflow. Would a siphon start and stop using a trap-like CHIFT drain as seen in the illustration? I've read through this thread but I can't wrap my head around it.

Thank you for reading.

P.s I want to set up a little system now and add on to it later. Just big enough to prove the concept but not so small that the tight tolerances will frustrate me. Any opinions on whether my GB/CHIFT ratio will accomplish that? ~thx

Fantastic information here
I am having to hop from one thread to another to realise I have more to learn

I am over reading about Bell Siphons but still cant find an answer to this question related to the way I plan to set up

Thoughts from those with experience please!

I am planning on linking the return pipes for 10 IBC grow beds each with their own bell siphon.
I am hoping the priming of the line (preventing air from entering the siphon from the pipes below) will be achieved by having the lower return pipe permanently filled with water
See diagram please and advice would be appreciated.

Very busy I know but focus on the red piping :)
Question is again posted in the bottom left of image
Happy fathers day to all who are lucky to be one :)

Hello guys, just want to know what can help a bell siphon start in lower inflow rate. Having a nightmare with this one.
