Nice Jamie, How long did it take to for your last ones to get to 600-700 g size, like the ones I have at the moment?

Im going to let mine grow out to a Kilo before I eat them!

Temperature wise, my tanks around 20 - 22 deg atm...

I don't know what the temp is in there at the moment, they ate the thermometer

We started eating them in October when the largest had reached about 500g. So 11months.
The silvers are slower to get to that size, but there are a couple in the purging tank now :eat:

Jaymie, sorry if you've already answered this - I did do a quick look back...

How much are you now feeding your 170 big and 260 small fish?

Any details on the type of food and where you get it would be appreciated.

Myles.

Yep, Stll only the one death, so far (touch wood). Mind you I went up the other night with a torch and heaps of them started to leap out of the water, so I turned the torch off before they decided to leave.

Thanks LKB - a little higher up the coast than that.

Trying to do some costing so I don't run out of cash halfway through building a big system...

we get a 25kg bag of pellets from a t'ville Barra farm fro $75.
Honestly haven't been measuring the amt that we have been feeding the little ones, rather than 6 capfuls, we aren't giving as much of the bigger pellets becuse I bought 8mm rather than 6 mm and the bigger fish aren't taking them as easily. They all enjoy the 3mm crumble though :( but we are sprinkling it so the little ones get it first. In a couple of months it will get cold(er) here and they will pretty much stop eating/growing. we have already had a couple of nights below 20deg. We want to get the little ones bigger quicker before they slow down. The tank got to 10deg last winter and they all just sloooooooooooooooweddd right down.

When my 6mm Trout pellets were too big for the 'lings' I used a piece of slate..
(flat, heavy and handy) put a few ( say half a cup ) pellets on a smooth area and put the 300mm x 300mm x 20mm sq of slate on top and added weight ( push down) and rotated the slate and scooped them up with a kitchen tidy shovel.
First few times I made it very small

Thanks Axl, any idea how often you go through a 25kg bag for the biggies? Just trying to get a feel for what I might be up for...
