And believe me... ALL phone calls... and internet traffic... are monitored...

And they no longer need a "court order" to do so... since 9/11

Jailbreaking the iphone & modding a console are user initiatated events. It's like uninstalling your virus protection on your PC, you do so at your own risk.

If you choose to jailbreak your phone, and some how get exploited that is not the fault of the device. *bangs head on wall*

Honestly this argument is a lost cause.

Sorry Rupe, I don't believe you, infact, no one should believe you.

If you even understand anything about the internet you would know it is technically IMPOSSIBLE to monitor it.

Secondly, I work for a telecommunications company, in a technical role. On what authority do you speak?

Well seeing as you keep coming back to this and ignoring my rebuttal to all your other ramblings

Quote:
Cydia founder Jay Freeman estimates that 8.5% of all iPods and iPhones are jailbroken.[1]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jailbreak_(iPhone_OS)

Again, I reiterate, jailbreaking is a user initiated event. The iPhone is not insecure. How about an anology. You fit aftermarket brakes to your car, thus voiding your warranty. Your aftermarket brakes fail, you cannot hold the car manufacturer responsible.

MrOrange, I don't dispute your remarks regarding the "legality"... or "warranty" of jailbreaking an iPhone...

As to monitoring of phone and internet traffic...

And Howard passed the same laws here in OZ....

Yes well thats the problem with google, everyone can use it. You've linked a lot of irrelevent info, laws applicable to the US, proposed laws in the UK.

How about the Telecommunications Interception and Access Act of Australia

You can read it here;
http://www.comlaw.gov.au/comlaw/managem ... endocument

You'll note even ASIO require warrants.

Anyway, I'm done.

Even under that act... some "agencies" had exemption....

Quote:
Although a number of government agencies are protected by an exemption under the TIA Act, this exemption is only effective until 12 December 2009

http://www.ag.gov.au/www/agd/agd.nsf/Pa ... nandAccess)AmendmentBill2009-NetworkProtection

Quote:
The government intends to introduce the amendments as a temporary exemption from the Act for some government agencies and will expire on 12 December.

The proposed amendments would exempt any network operator from interception prohibitions if it was conducting security protection measures that might include inspecting incoming traffic. Under current legislation, it is illegal under most circumstances to intercept inbound communications before it has reached its intended recipient with the offence punishable by up to two years' imprisonment

http://www.zdnet.com.au/news/communicat ... /06/03-69/

And it's all under review...

Thanks guys for your tips

As for RupertofOZ and MrOrange the sooner you both realise your wasting your lives comparing whos bigger than whos and maybe focus on what I am trying to achieve. I am keen to get both of your inputs on what things you have learnt using your PCs to record information. What info do you record or would like to record?

Those you have an iPhone, I personally have not tried yet but there are two apps available called touchbb Forum Browser and touchbb Lite that allows you to connect to forums running phpBB like this one and do everything you can normally do in a browser.

I realise that you can do this all from your PC but you do not carry your PC around with you all the time but the iPhone you do which gives you quick access to your AP diary.

Keep the ideas flowing. RupertofOz, if you don't have an iPhone then you have nothing to fear. I'd appreciate if you add value to this discussion rather than negatives you feel is with the iPhone. Create a separate "General Banter" thread for that one...where it belongs.

I mostly read this forum from my iPhone...at least 80%. Only when I want to type a long response or add pictures do I use the computer. I'll have to try out the reader you mentioned. Would make reading a little easier then all the zooming in done in safari.

I have not jailbroken my phone, no need to - I think it is pretty much perfect as is! Let us know what you come up with, it will be fun to play with.

Mark

Good point actually. Once I have past this information gathering phase I will start of the Conceptual Design Document, Technical Specification Document and User Interface Document :) and smash something out. At that stage, I will call on you fellow BETA Testers to try it out...

I have a basic licence to allow 99 testers :) but let's get some more useful ideas.

Yes Balckduck, TouchBB is the app to use, but it needs a mod to the forum code, and without a heap of support of users wanting iPhone access, I just couldn't validate a petition to our sys admin.

No No No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mods are a no no unless fully test. Last thing you wanted is this forum to be unavailable due to lack of resources and testing.

I am happy for the mod but only if there has been testing involved.

Not sure what I would do if the forums went down. What do you do for forum withdrawls?
