Ev,
The weight will be carried by the stand which the GB sits on so, if the stand can carry the weight of the GB and gravel, then the GB will have no problem.
EB has stands for these GB.

Faye, could you do a generic quote... say 1 x fish tank + 4 x growbeds... freight to Sydney...

Both myself and Skygazer are within cooee of one another and Sydney is just up the road...

An idea of freight might help some make decisions...or even combine orders

aaaahh! :? It is do-able. How I do it is;-
1.I know what people want (Customer order or request for quote)
2.Then I factor the sizes
3.Then I ring 6 different freight companies
3. 3 freight companies go to Sydney the others are either express or local or whatever
4. They then say I will get back to you
5. 1 may get back to me, the others I ring again(give them 1 day)(can't always go with the one we used last time because suddenly their prices changed?
6. Give prices to customer 50% say oooh thats too much
7. Best bet is we have a person that is prepared to manage the order at that end and take delivery and pay up front to supply others.
8. Each day is a new challenge and we are expanding so quickly any ideas would be appreciated.
9. The more you order the cheaper each unit is. We now know what is the max height so if people club together and make an order that is great.
10. Each time we get prices and send orders it gets easier and more efficient, we are learning everyday. How challenging and exciting. We do our best :D

Rope, maybe it would be cheaper to just start a BYAP shop annex/franchise in Sydney!

Re shipping to the states,

there is a company in NZ, that ships looms etc all over the world, I brought some to Israel for some friends, these tanks and troughs should pack and ship a or lower price, worth looking into,

we have a number of good plastic tanks in Israel but am shopping for GBs, or will have to make some, can buy heavy pool liner material , but framing material runs it up here, a good plastic/rubber one might be competitive. I am going to be putting in 3-4 'small' systems with 2-300 gal tanks and 4-6 GBs. Each for separate populations.

It could possibly be feasible, was definately feasible 12 months ago but unfortunately our $ has come up lately which puts a burden on exports going out of Australia.

Geez, how things have changed in the last 2 years. I was just reading what I wrote here back in 2008. It has become relatively easy to ship/ freight gear around the place these days. We have since sent containers to NSW and systems to Darwin, Queensland, Adelaide, Esperance, Onslow, Meekatharra, Kalgoorlie and many more. Quotes how gone out for South Africa, the US, UK, the Phillipines and Barbados.
