I've uploaded the whole shooting match here: http://www.backyardaquaponics.com/Travi ... onents.skb

The file is about 8MB all up but you get IBC's, blue barrels cut either way, and all of our gear. All these are drawn to scale and you can just delete what you don't want.

You might want to right click and "save as" with the above link.

Yeah, no excuses now... I like sketchup, except my current computer has issues with it, tends to send my screen into spasms and you can't use it properly.

when you load it you get or should get a choice tween opengl and something else. if you are having screen issues try whatever one you dont currently use. If your using windows there should be both start options under the windows start button.

otherwise look for an updated version of sketchup, opengl, and whatever that other start option is (sorry I cant remember)(one says "start with opengl" and the other says "start with somthing else")

Has anyone had any luck running sketchup under any flavour of linux?

Hey Joel, Sketchup will be very dependent on the video driver, try to see if there is newer version of the driver for your video card.

When you install sketchup by running the setup.exe with wine it doesnt work. Cant find openGL or something.

Backup your registry before trying this. I didnt.
The windows registry is a quagmire of crud.
Dont do random changes in there to see what happens. I did.
But bad things could happen. Blah blah blah etc.

But if what I say here doesnt work for you, you should probably change it back.

all that being said...This solved my issues and got me up and running

- highlight "wine" in your applications menu
- select "browse c: drive"
- run "explorer" in the windows folder
- navigate to ..
"windows"
double click "regedit.exe"

navigate the folders...
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Software
Sketchup 7 or 8
GL config
Display

the last entry on the right should be HW_OK. If it isnt, run away now.

right click on it and select modify

Change the zero to a one

click ok

now to run the program you seem to need to run it from explorer rather than from a desktop link or whatever

- within explorer, navigate to...
"program files"
"google"
"sketchup 7 or 8"
double click "sketchup.exe"

In version 8, if you cant see a properties box when you use something like the paint pour function, try looking behind the main window. For some reason it doesnt popup to the front. Or use sketchup 7 because it seems to popup normally.

FYI "wine" is a "WINdows Emulator" . It runs windows stuff under linux. In my case the only program I found I wanted from the windows world is sketchup.

Yay!

So... this is a Linux application problem.... not a windows problem...

No problem, its only that I just discovered linux is even better at covering windoze design flaws than I previously thought :)

If I was wearing my U-Fo space alien foil hat rather than this armadillo one, I could tell you the exact date that google will bring out a linux distro, and "shut the Gates"* forever.

put that in your diary folks - Bullwinkle the second predicts something at sometime.

* soo clever** :P

**Actually I'm pro-bill. He does a lot of good in the world these days.

:laughing3: ... yeah lets replace M$ofts domination.... with Google's....

I rather trust Bill... than bloody "Google".....

And why does Goggle think we need "another" Linux distribution anyway... there's already more than enough out there...

Google thinks we need a "google" version of everything whether they already exist or not...

Still I am a happy android user so can't complain too much..
