In 1000 litres you would need shells from 5 doz eggs to make a difference and then they will only raise it if its low
all these buffering agents realy do bugger all if theres something else in the system working against it
In my system i have 20 kg shellgrit and 10 kg calciam carbonate and still every month or so i add 1 cup of slacked lime [like the brickes use ] and it still sits at about 6.4

Yeah I dont know why I thought to add eggshells when acidity is what I want :?:

Anyway the acidity dropped to 8.2 overnight and Id rather not add anything... Patience grasshopper. Im concerned that if I plant out with such high Ph many nutrients are locked out. Also no reading of nitrates means there arent very good conditions in the system yet to ensure a good start for the plants. However might put some of the hardy things like perrenial corriander and lemon grass in soon, I will put up some shade cloth too as the sun here is still hardcore.

I fixed the stand with some concrete pavers.
Added hummonia.
Finished the plumbing.
Added some hydroponics ph down so the ph is sitting about 7.4.
Planted basil, perennial coriander and lemon grass.
Added a few more worms
Ammonia is .5 and expect it to go up slightly tomorrow.

I`m Happy with things right now.

Now take that bottle of hydro Ph down and throw it away before you get tempted to use it again. Your Ph will start moving down by itself now no problems...

Hey trev i used that Ph down too, waste of time and just turned the water green . . . :mrgreen:

also is that GB stand on the piss? is it stable? remember when its full of plants et your gonna have a fair bit of weight on those blocks . . .

Yeah its stable, you wouldn't tie a wild horse to it but I couldn't move it if I tried.

I wasn't going to add anything but impatience got the better of me, just thought that the PH @ 8.4 might slow the growth of bacteria and reading a heap of threads on high PH thought Fck it! I will refrain from using it from now on.

What do u think about these levels?
PH... Im not so sure on this one I guess 8.. ????
Ammon.. a little over 1...???
Nitrite between .5 and 1
Nitrate .25

This is ok right means the bacteria is working?
when the ammonia and nitrites read 0`s I should salt and add fish.
How much salt for 1800l of water, trout in FT SP in Sump?
Also If planted a few herbs but what's some recommendation for winter veg?

There are lots of different sizes in the IBC standad. The most common IBC is the 1000 litre but you can get 600 and 800 litre cube tybe IBCs.

Also these are rated values, in fact their volume is 40-50 literes more than what they are rated to stadn heat expands.

yeah they are both 1000l one is buried about 400mm tho.

As there were nitrate readings I went and planted the bed out, Spring onion, chives, cherry tomato, various lettuce, broccoli, snow peas, spinach, leek and silver beet plus all the herbs I had before. Pretty close together but I figure I can take things out and plant them in the ground if need be.
cant waaaaait to add fish though I think I might be waiting for a while till the ammonia and nites drop.

Oh.. and I did add about a table spoon of chelated Iron a few days ago figuring if the Ph stays high then the roots wont be able to take up Iron unless its chelated. there has been nice green new growth since on the established herbs I put in a while ago so I think thats worked.

really loving this already but Ive got to go to New Zealand on the 3rd of may for 2 weeks hope I will get it stabilised so it will be fine when Im gone.
