One other thing you should be aware of with strawberries - plants do become virused and need to be replaced periodically because of this. In other words you probably will not be able to just keep planting runners. Here in the states, commercial laboratories produce virus free plants from meristematic tissue (think growing point of a leaf bud for instance). Virused plants don't do well and have low yields.

I suppose you may not have these virus problems in Australia but it might be worth asking. The virus is spread by aphids if I remember correctly.

Just found something else interesting, check this site out - http://193.205.128.6/agraria/ricerca/prog_ric/Wg3/NERI/MeetingGRAZ/LietenDoc.htm

extending daylenght has a similar effect to chilling with this strawberry type and probably others. What's also interesting is you only have to light the plant for 15 minutes out of each hour to make it work.

FWIW I couldn't find any plants to buy for my system anymore this late in the year so I bought seeds. The last time I tried growing strawberries from seed they took forever to sprout (weeks). This batch sprouted in about a day. I got everbearing but not day-neutral, live and learn.

Its nice to see someone got them to germinate at least.

I emailed Erica Vale to do a grumpy old man on them about the 11 seeds I found in a pack, and they got back to me asking for my phone number, so perhaps I judged then too quickly. I guess that depends on why they want my number :)

You can leave strawberries for someone else! They must have been huge.

In my house strawberries have to be hidden :)

That's strange that extended daylight has the same effect as chilling. I'm amazed anyone even thought to test it.

It just goes to show you should do something odd every day, just in case :)
