Well i hope both crates work...... at the cost of them all hehhe .... ok so I have the same plants planted in the same area of each crate to make it easier for comparison...

I have Pickerel Rush at the Back only 1 plant each crate and placed more to the left.....

I have 3 Water Chestnuts through the middle of each crate ( they say 2 corms per sq.mtr)
but oh well this is an experiment.....

I have placed 2 Arrowhead Plants(duck Potato) near the 2 front croners of each crate...

So the difference between the 2 crates is the height in the water
Left Crate - the plants have been planted at high tide.. the highest water lvl that bed fills to
the plants will get covered each flood but no for long but they have enough
clay balls on top to keep moist...
Right Crate - these plants have been planted at low tide...The lowest level the the water
can go down to....So these ones will always be WET....

Let the FUN & GAMES begin hehehehe I have planted others in my other growbeds too but I think these will work better

Ok well a good start I have carefully moved the clay balls back so i can see the aquatic plants and the roots are all coming out and the main roots so far have grown to around 2 inches.... The Pickerel Rush in the right hand crate(lower water level is starting to poke out its leaves from the top of the clay.....

well all 3 pickerel Rushes have pushed up new leaves and looking good

We have 4 waterchestnuts in all different areas spitting out leaves(or rushes??) out through the clay balls some even from 100mm under the top.... and so far most of the 24 waterchestnuts have 4-5 roots on them ranging upto 50mm (2inches) SO going well

the Arrowhead(duck potato) have sent some roots down butthats it at the moment...

Comfrey loves being under the clay and staying moist.... so far

All the Chillies are getting heaps of new growth brand new leaves, pretty white flowers so here we go (I might not like picking chillies for an hour or 2 soon :support: )hahaha oh well i'll just have to suck it up......

fish are starting to eat more cant wait til i start going through a 20Kg bag every 3 weeks once the weather warms up more....

Ok will post some piccies in the next few days with all the aquatic plants growth ..

So the best thing about losing most of the lovely sized Jades is that now we are moving 9hrs south of here is that when we get more fish they wont have so much of a shock... :)

The other good thing is I can get the oppertunity to Redesign a few things I would have never gotten aroung to changing :) :) joy joy .....
I am going to change the system to a 1 pump system which will half the power consumption and take out the cost of another pump...and take away a possible failure point

Now that was a wonderful read. Really good on ya. I like to see lots of pics and see the lovely growth in these gardens. Wish mine did so well as yours. Right now mine is just getting started again after freezing out most of my plants. Keep up the good work.

Are you taking that system with you or are you going to build another one?

My system has done a great job of looking after itself even though we went away for 5 yes five weeks and I had lost most of my big fish... the 9 Jades left were left in the 10,000 ltr sump with a bucket load of feeder fish( they are still there)...... I didnt have the system running at all for the whole 5 weeks nor did i get the neighbour to feed the fish that were still there...

So all this means is that the system didnt cycle for a full 5 weeks ie no nutrients or water and these are the photos of the system now... I now have queensland arrowroot almost hitting the 2mtr mark I only planted 6 of these now i have around 24 .... the other pretty canna flowering plant i had around 20 of them now have (well I stopped counting at 56)..

The Chillies have lost alittle of there condition but in saying that there are 400 odd plant in a 3mtr x 1.3 BUT they are still flowering and have all stages of chillies still growing ...

So I guess I have to say that my system is a good one that will still grow stuff and i must put it down to the fact I have a good amount of worms in it and used the expanded Clay Balls which kept it cool and damp underneath the top layer....

5 weeks is a long time guys and gals... that should have been 24 cycles a day x 7 days x 5 weeks = 840 cycles it didnt get...
