Hi!

I and some other people are thinking about, how could we replace the expensive chemical sensors.

Maybe the answer isn't so far...but I think, it's likely, if it would be an easier solution it already would have been used.

but Life Is a big Game-->LIG

So the basic philosophy:
Perhaps we can detect different parameters, different sensors, than we can calculate the concentration of chemicals.

1. main thread
The astronomers sometimes use spectroscope to determine the materials of some distant planet.

Maybe we can use the spectroscope to determine some chemical materials too.
Such as NH3 / 4, NO2, NO3 etc.

Katonafull,
Do you know the spectra line wavelenghts for NH3/4 NO2 NO3
Also how do how to determine concentration. I think concentration is related to intensity of light

Those basics would be good to know. Then we can see if we see anything in our systems

Thanks katonafull

I'm off to do some reading.

I really think an API Freshwater Master Test Kit (800 tests) @ $45-$50.... would work out an aweful lot cheaper...

Hey Rupert,

The kit is relatively cheap...but with a big IF the possible cost of such an item is not extreme when you think that you can get smart phones with processor and camera for under $100 and that would be the key parts of the spectroscope.

I mean there a many hurdles but if you are doing this for fun/interest then the cost is not prohibitive to experiment.

I also know that throwing a lot or processing power can solve many hurdles now.....I saw a video of a camera app that removes unwanted people in the background of your photo.

You don't need a great deal of processing power to acheive that....

Yo can get divorce kits from most court houses... and scissors will take care of the rest...

But the app removes the lingering bad taste as well :)

I agree with you in that the concentration is related to intensity of light-line.
I plan that i will consider a high NH3/4; No2; No3 concetration water sample with the webcamspectroscope.
Than i make a picture of them.
Than i will make a a dilution series of each chemical substance.
I will put from the most concentrated sample/1 into an other bottle
I dilute that with distilled water, and it will be the sample/2.
Than i will put from the sample/2 into an other bottle.
Than i will repeat this method about 10 round.
The dilution series is ready.

Than i will make a photo of each them, with the webcamspectroscope, and i save the pictures. It will be the database.

This is the plan.

The only problem...I dont know Are the above mentioned chemicals showing light-absorption, or aren't...

If it isn't work with that chemicals maybe it works with another chemicals...

Opinion?

Do anybody know a table, that include the light-absorption of the materials, chemicals?
