wow, Im looking foward to my lil bubs growing up into nice big grilled fish

Absolutely Charlie...they are definitely not big on the brave list. Having said all that, once crushed they love it as it falls to the bottom of the tank. It could be my fault as when they were only little I crushed the pellets for them to be able to eat and maybe they are just used to it now. I have smaller 250L system with mainly goldfish however I put a couple of silvers in there to see how they go. I don't crush the pellets for this system and the goldfish hit the water beautifully and low and behold the silvers copy them. These silvers were not part of my original purchase just some that I saw in a pet shop and felt sorry for!

Mind you I sick of crushing the pellets so that they sink for the silvers plus I think my wife wants her mortar and pestle back. All my food comes from BYAP as I want the right quality feed, any recommendations on sinking pellets so that I don't have to crush?

Yea Im feeding mine my left over 7mm pellets from last trout season and they are too big for some of the stragglers. What size pellets have you got?, you will be surprised how big they can fit in their mouth - its a matter of them becoming used to them over time.

We have discussed this before actually - someone suggested mixing crushed with whole and sort of ween them off the crushed over time.

My issue is now I have some big boys in there, if I dont crush some up they just smash all the floating stuff and leave nothing for the little guys.

I have found a reasonably easy crushing system thou, I put about a kg of pellets in a 20L tub I have - its pretty solid, and I use a broom handle to smash them up to a mixed size. Seems to work ok and saves the missus wingeing about the kitchen utensils.

I've found Sp are creatures of habit. If I feed mine it must land and stay in one end of my tank they won't go looking for feed if it drifts away.
Took me a while to convert them to floating but once it got warmer and they started getting hungry they started following the goldfish up to the floating feed.
Even tho it has cooled off they are still chowing down the feed.
