hi people.straght to the point how long can a system go without fish.to remain cycled.please excuse spelling.had barra troutman not here till may nothing since yesterday in tank.read foram all the time .fist time asked for help .hope someone can help.thankyou

as long as there is a source of ammonia the system can go without fish indefinitely...

it does wonders to get a system cycled... just don't add too much too quickly like i did...lol

I have left a system empty for many months, then added fish and ramped it up without a problem..

My very very first system that didnt quite work out (location issue) was sitting around for maybe 4 months. I had it decomssioned but decided to use the media from it for my duplicate system. I set it all up and added fish and plants straight away and tested flat out every day, first tests showed signs of nitrate....following tests showed slight signs of amm and nitri but then it all flat lined. Fastest cycle I had ever seen...guessed the nitrate colony was still active in the wet media and carried on in the new system much like seeding.
