Was riding home from work today and stumbled across this big fella....no he didnt drink the beer :) (was just trying to find a comparison for size). Sadly enough he was dead, must have wandered from someones pond as although there is a lot of water nearby it is estuarine and not an ideal location for marron.

Good spotting on the brand of beer. :thumbleft: Shame I didn't spot him before the ants started, would have gone down well on the bbq with a few Peroni's.

Considering everyone tells you they need perfect conditions to survive, it's amazing where you come across them.

One of my mates works for Alinta Gas and they were digging a trench along side a road in an industrial area, the trench was being dug along what was basically a man made swamp, the water would collect along the roadside in winter and reeds and stuff grew there, but every summer the water dries up completely. When they were digging there was damp soil just under the surface, but because it was summer... no water. While they were sitting having smoko a huge marron walked right up to them, during the day they found a few more.
