For those who only use pressure pipe (food safe), and cry when they get to the register at Bunnings, I found something cool/frustrating the otherday.

In the plumbing section you can get 1m lengths or 3 m lengths of pipe. 40mm is something like $8.50 for 1m of class 9, ~$17-$19 for 3m or class 12.....if you walk your back side over to the timber yard they have 6m lengths of 40mm class 12 for $20! and you can get them cut to 2m lengths for free at the cut shop.

That's almost double the pipe for the same price! I wish i had have known about this when doing the main work on my system. I would have saved heaps on pressure pipe.

Needless to say I bought 6x more pipe then I needed for only $12 extra. Now I have spares.

What pees me off is when you go to one of these meduim size "trade" shops (in particular..one that starts with r and ends in ece) that are supposed to be cheaper than bunnings, and then find out that bunnings would have been 1/2 the price anyway. Or have to go to bunnings because they didnt have everything you need.

This sh!ts me. Unless shops are going to offer lower prices OR better service than the chain stores, stop complaining! Most of the arguements I hear for visiting these stores over a big chain store is the service. But in my experience they are worse than bunnings because they only care about bulk buyers and regulars.

[EDIT] - Im not saying all of them complain, or claim better service. So if you own such a shop, I'm not necessarily aiming this at you. Just consider whether you fullfill the "Unless" clause first.

If you guys do a bit of research in this forum you'll find there's links/details for cheaper sources of pressure pipe, fittings, etc, at least for WA, prolly elsewhere as well !

I sourced mine for half the price that I would have paid at B's.

The name escapes me now( it's been 2.5 years) but I know the info is in here.

In fact, I'm feeling so helpful today I dug around myslef and found it;

I've obtained most of my piping and fittings through Deon and I know Joel has used him in the past too - highly recommended.

Have you actually filled out the application form? The saving you get is next to nothing! One purchase i made saved less than a dollar over $300 odd purchase. Costs us more to apply than what we saved...

Just noticed this myself on the weekend whilst shopping for timber.... big saving over the 3m lengths!!
