Hi,
Due to moving house, Im going to have to dismantle my system for 6-12 months. As Im really happy with the way my system has been going, it has cycled and matured nicely, can I store water from my system in an aid to "seed" my new system when I get going again?
I would think that once the bacteria have consumed all the available ammonia in the water that they would either eat each other or die, or would they go into dormance?
Would refrigeration be required or would room temp be better?
Or should I just go through the normal processes and let the new system cycle as normal?
Just seems a shame to put all the hard work to waste!

Thanks guys,

Sam

I would have thought any beneficial bacteria would have starved over that time period. Start from scratch, its always easier second time round.

Yep, what they said.

The largest portion of the bacteria population is on your GB media anyway, not in the water.

Yeh I thought that might be the case.
Bigger and better Faye... Thats one of the reasons for the move. I'll be going from 500m2 to 4000m2, which will give me opportunity to go from a bathtub and blue barrel system to *check over shoulders to see if SHE is watching* a LOT bigger and better.
I think Im going to get pretty bored in the meantime, how else am I going to waste countless hours of my time?

Spend it with your wife!

Your time spent with AP isn't a waste!
