Look up Wicking Beds or growing potatoes in buckets. I'd give you a link, but I'm using my phone to post. Might email you a link tomorrow.

Ma bought me a potatoe grow bag for Christmas. So I plan on growing them in that anda heshian/woven bag thus year. Start with 200mm of compost in bottom, when tips get 100mm tall, roll bags up a bit and add mix of soil/compost+sugar cane mulch. Repeat until you reach the top. Potatoes should grow all the way up the burried stems.

And take some photos :)

Whatever it is you're doing sounds interesting :)

Will do. It's the same principal as "hilling up" potatoes in a normal garden, but neatly confined to the bags.

Have about 5 store bought potatoes sitting at the back door growing sprouts. Will plant next weekend. I dont like my chances of me leaving my wife to plant potatoes on mothersday while she juggles the baby :).

I just look out for ones with little sprouts at the supermarket and let them sprout further at home. Most nurseries don't even have their seed potatoes in yet.

Sorry for hijack bill. I'll take it else where when I have pics.

When building your barrelponics system, emember to keep all your parts either plastic or stainless steel. How many blue barrels have you some up with so far?

Potatoes will take a few months to be ready for harvest. Just water them and keep putting dirt, leaves, or hay around the new growth until it reaches the top of the bucket. The ones you saw at my place are almost at the top of their buckets. Hardest part is waiting because you can't see the roots. Just have to have faith.

And don't worry about other people. Everyone has their hang-ups. You did great to get a job so fast. Keep working and ignoring the idiots that try to cause trouble. Pretty soon, you'll have more and more work. The owners will notice a good work ethic and reward you accordingly. And you can eat on the job. How cool is that?

Oh is that the benefit you get to eat worms on the job?

Hang in there, it's always hard to be the new person, How do they even know if they like you or not if they really don't know you yet. Make friends with the plants and learn as much as you can.

Yeah he will be fine. I'm not a people person and he seemed to be when he was here and from what I know of him.
Just keep on going and stay out of trouble. Learn all you can. Wish I knew more about growing things.
Then again its a bit amusing to hear someone stating that they didn't know that potatoes grew in the ground. Or in a bucket since I am using both methods this year.

I don't consider it a hyjack Dr Luke. Not a problem.

After it stops raining, I'll be harvesting some Rhubarb out of the growbed. One of the crowns that I planted did not make it. I think the bell siphon stopped working and the water level stayed high. Drowned the crown. Not to worry, the next bed over houses another, which is rediculously big and spreading it's massive leaves out. Good thing there is enough space for it to grow.

Everyone beat me to it.... My only other comment is. STOP WORRYING ABOUT WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK ABOUT YOU!

Also, if you give out unconditionally, you will get the same back in return. Just be carefully what u are giving out ;)

Not much to post regarding the old system. Had more people stop by to look and ask a bunch of questions. Never know when someone will get the AP bug, but I do what I can to spread the word.

Raised the "roof" over the yellow squash beds. Been harvesting a few here and there. Very tasty. Have some basil, millet, rhubarb (that the chickens ate), still have that crawling rose plant with maybe 50 or so flowers. Small flowers, but nice looking anyway. A Butter-Crunch lettuce plant that made it all the way from October of last year until July of this year with me harvesting leaves to feed to the chickens. Still going.

Just had a wicked rain storm. Went out on the front porch to check it out.......

Can you see the rainbow? Does this mean there is GOLD in my growbeds?

Wow that was a lot of rain all at once. Flooded the AP system area and the fishtank. The ground slopes off a bit on the other side of the tank so that's why the tank doesn't pop up out of the ground.

Just before it rained, I moved the cover over to the white barrels side. Have to have the cover there because the chickens treat it as a buffet line.

Am planning on moving the blue barrels over to the Future Setup area. Left the basil and millet plants growing in the end growbed and have shut the water off to the end three blue barrels.

In the three white barrels, have seeded some lettuce, spinach, and planted a single sweet pepper start.

System still kicks along, no worries. Still running bell siphons with no problem. Fish are growing. Bream aren't really a fast growing breed, but they are good enough for what the system needs.
