We put together a single barrel system yesterday, filming and documenting so that we can release it for people at a later date.

Here's the condensed version for now..

Take one barrel and cut the top off.

Measure 4 equally spaced sections around the top when you can cut out V shapes 2cm wide by 15 cm deep.

Drill some holes and use cable ties to draw the gaps in together.

Cut whatever shaped access hole you want in the lower fish tank section.

Cut holes in top bed section for irrigation and drain (depends on what you are using).

And of course fill with water, add fish and plants.... :thumbright:

Took us about 2 hours to make this yesterday including all the filming and photographing, a great project for people to do on a weekend.

Perfect! This I can fit in the yard easily! It also looks much more birdproof than many of the other designs, and easy enough to fit a mesh door over to be sure :-) Thank you!

This is also perfect for a growout for tropical fish in summer! I've seen a bunch of kiddypool & potplant systems but this would be much simpler and space-efficient. Understock and overplant and you have a really good way to raise ornamentals outdoors :-) Very tempted to see if I can breed something just to try it ;-)
