I am pretty sure the $2000 ones are not export controlled, which means that import shouldn't be too bad. Instead of the cheap Russian night vision, I recommend a good pair of 7x50 binoculars, something with a light transmission efficiency over 90%. The optics in the cheap Russians are usually so poor, you are just getting a useless blur. However, with a pair of Fujinon Polaris, or Steiner Commanders, you will get a bright clear picture in low light. Plus, you don't need to worry about having an expensive chart weight when the batteries run out. I also recommend getting the ones with a compass built in. That way you can use it for proper navigation.

Laser range finders have kind of a limited range. The navy buys them from us a bit, as they are good for making sure someone doesn't come too close. The binos with compasses built in have range finding reticules in them.

The binoculars don't stop people coming too close; BFGs pointed at them stop people coming too close, the range finders just help you identify when the line has been crossed, when to shout and when to shoot!

Let me see if I remember my training, get things in the right sequence:
1. BANG! BANG!
2. "Stop! Or I'll shoot!"

In reality it was more like:
1. "Stop!"
2. Say "Stop!" again.
(the Navy didn't like us to carry guns)

That's what I said, the navy buys laser range finders from us to make sure civilian craft don't get too close. They also buy the ones that have speed detection.

I was not aware that this was in classrooms. It's a good thing I save the profanity for driving. Though people tend to use alternative expletives here anyways. It sure would make for one HSM for the teacher otherwise. Parents calling "If this Aquaponics thing is so good, why is my child now swearing like a sailor?"

Does anyone know if Senega & Ammonia is a viable source of something to fishlessly cycle with?

I just read it off the bottle and thought it might be useful.

It's a de-phlegming agent from the medicine cabinet.

I have no idea what senaga is, but it tastes like it might be a pointless aniseed additive to make drinking ammonia seem like a good idea. Actually the product really works, but I suspect a shot of vodka every 2 hours might do the same to change to the surface tension of snot.

Any chemists around? (there doesn't seem to be a source of pure ammonia in this part of the world any more, and it seems to be mixed with detergent (national security etc)(but this could be a fish safe alternative)) (+/- ())

No it should read ham radio, not ham, radio. KI6MBG happens to be my call sign. I however do not have a pilots license. I'm not sure I would want a plane at the end of the world. Where are you going to get fuel? The ham radio would do a lot more good. A dirigible might be nice however! I bet a dirigible mounted aquaponic system would be incredibly useful! Than ham, the nitrate laden pork product, would be entirely optional.

This makes me think of the "Road Warrior" movie that followed "Mad Max". I could definitely see BW being the guy flying around in his mini-plane siphoning fuel out of abandoned trucks and dropping snakes on people.
As for the ammonia source, drink beer and make your own.
