Im thinking camera shots only rather than video feeds will be the only option for the web cam. There is a pretty consistent online consensus that the aurdino does not have enough computation power or bandwidth/throughput to support even video pass through.

You might have to couple the with another controller or custom board controlled by the arduino. If you have not got the arduino yet, perhaps consider a gum stick instead. Ability to run a small Linux kernel will make emailing alerts and remote interface via web server much easier.

Potentially "dangerous" exercise in your industry. How do you ever expect to murder the fish if you name them?....unless you name them Precisious.

"Fish murderer" hmm that title makes me think...Have you ever had crazy activists throw fish blood (fake of course) all over your AP system?

The video could probably be passed straight to the house via an IP security cam. Other option is having the ip cam to save shots straight to my nas which has an ip securiy cam server on it. True about the sensors though. I guess the hobby market is not large enough for them to look at it seriously yet.

I'm not quite sure I follow what you are saying there? Are you saying you don't know how to use Linux, you don't know how to write bash script, or you don't know how to write cross platform c++ code portable to Linux OS.

If you are not using windows .net, MFC, GUI, or other proprietary libraries in your c++ code it should pretty much just work. All you will need to learn is how to log into Linux and run a c++ compiler on the code you developed in windows. Unless you are using visual studios to write your code in windows, then you are probably screwed unless you get some more experience.

Of course it will never be as easy as I have made out in reality :P. Especially if you need special libraries to connect with you microcontroller, sensors, or webcam that are not available Linux.

Arduino working quite nicely. Got the RTC working so I cna do my feeds as well as building the prototype fish feeder. Would be good if the rest of the components turned up tomorrow so I can get the TEMP sensor and stepper motors working.

Base code being written, good thing I got the meag board
