As for the ammonia source, drink beer and make your own.

You do realise that avitar isn't a real photo of me right? :)

I don't really look like the gyro copter pilot :)

I'm more the ferrel kid with the boomarang :)

I knew I should have taken ham radio and pilot lessons.

That's what you need in an end of the world scenario. Ham radio, and a plane.

I'm back from a hiatus of I guess 6 months and it's taking a long time to get thru 6 months of this thread.

Anyway, due to the 2012/end of the world scenario I thought I'd correct your line above because you may need it again in the next 6 months.

You forgot a comma.

It should read: Ham, radio, and a plane.

Mmmm, ham.

I was thinking more along the lines of your resourcefulness and how handy that would be in a post-apocalyptic Australia. In that scenario, wouldn't you eventually try to get the Bullwinkle IV to fly? (I was going to piece up a picture of a gyro copter with twin catamaran hulls here. But, when I google "road warrior" I find that some folks celebrate that movie with costumes that are, uh...more exciting than needed on a family friendly website. Not that I wouldn't go if I were in Australia, especially with the cars, there...and the costumes.)

Unfortunately I think I'd struggle getting the boat to fly, so I might have to settle for a second rate water-world scenario :)

Perhaps we should all be adding gun mounts to our systems just in case. It would be tricky being the only person around with a floating garden. :)

I loved Costner's giant metal Tri-maran. And the gills seemed handy, too. He definitely needed an AP setup instead of that flimsy little citrus tree. AP would be perfect for the water conservation aspects of living on the open ocean.

The owners of that trimaran are customers of mine too. They have told me what they named it, but all I hear when they talk is "waterworld trimaran." She really is a fast boat. They have cleaned her up, so she doesn't look like the movie.

It's a real, sailing vessel? Awesome. I never considered that it would be anymore than a posiibly floating movie prop.
Is it all metal? Did they keep the harpoon gun (I would guess non-functioning)? Is it potentially sailable by one person like the movie?
And have you suggested setting up an AP system for long voyages? :)

The ap system would not fit at all on the vessel. The interior shots were very unrealistic. Not to mention that you never want to over load a trimaran with stuff. They will do cartwheels for you, not in a good way! But yes it really sails.

I thought that boat was made from a plane.

I seem to recall it had some interesting rigging.

I can see myself being drawn into some kind of post apocalyptic delusion, and spending the rest of my life sailing the mighty Murray begging for sweet things to make home brew from.

That, or I might add an annex that folds out to become a pâtisserie :)

But I'm pretty sure it will be one or the other.

I need a bigger hull.

I know that it was designed by an aircraft designer, but I don't believe it is from plane parts.

I found this...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DG3oPMiY7Fo

if you fast forward to 6:18 you see something that looks like it might be nice, and also something that looks a bit like my date and bacon things that I cant actually remember, but kind of recall having mentioned.

And this....

Sometimes I like to do stuff that's already been done, but without looking up how it's been done. Sometimes it's a total waste of time, and sometimes I create something new.

I have no idea which this is, because I didnt do the followup to see what has actually been done, but.....

Get a glass jar with a plastic lid (say a peanut butter jar), drill two holes in the lid, and jam some heat resistant tubing through one of them, a length of car aerial(sp?) might work, as might some copper tubing, or a metal ball point pen case.

Make a pipe ... as in old gentlemen's pipe for smoking tobacco, shaped bowl out of foil, and hug it to a rough seal around the heat proof tube on what would be the inside, side of the lid.

In the other hole in the lid, stick an air hose from your systems air pump (see it's on topic)

Mount the lid so the glass jar can be screwed onto it from above. ie make it all be upside down.

Fill the pipe with wood chips and light it, then replace the lid and turn on the air

The device is an automatic cold smoke creator. that will chuff away for ages depending on the rate of air you pump in.

You can dial up whatever rate of smoke you desire, and cold smoke stuff like pork, fish, chicken or whatever floats your boat.

I'm going to try to make smoked sea salt. I have no idea if that's a thing, but smoked paprika is so smoked salt should be.

I'm yet to make it, but it will work perfectly first time. I promise.

Sorry for making you read this twice.
