You can watch it over there too, a mate in the states caught it last night.
Pretty much live on ESPN.
Even if you don't know the game at all you should check it out in three weeks time.
It'll probably be as good as it gets. :-D

Yep... that's probably true...

So you'd probably be better off watching the AFL (Aussie Rules) matches every week instead... consistently higher standard of athletic expertise.. and level of excitement.... :D

I grew up near Detroit watching Red Wings hockey - this is the off season so I'll give a look and see what I can find. Who knows I might find a second sport worth watching!

So my question is what team should I be cheering for? :D

Hey Rup, why stop with one sport. I grew up playing all three codes (league, rugby and Aussie rules), but my boy plays soccer. I like it too now, but couldn't sit to watch one on TV.

Alex - QLD has won the last 7 series, NSW is trying to knock them off. My son supported the NSW team, but the wife and I go for QLD (she has a soft spot for Billy Slater). Going to dis-own son when he is old enough to leave home.

Rupe!
:naughty:
Comparing State of Origin to AFL is like comparing an Aust V NZ Union game to soccer...

Alex, I wouldn't want to tell you who to cheer for but I'll try to describe the teams in a way that would make sense to an American.
If Chesty Puller and Chuck Norris played Origin, they'd play for Queensland.
OJ Simpson and Lance Armstrong would play for New South Wales.
Hope that helps some.

You're right there no comparison between the All Blacks and soccer... nor the AFL to the State of Origin....

I apologise to both the All Blacks & the AFL... :D

:laughing3: :laughing3: :laughing3:

Thats a pretty good analogy Bodgy

Alex, the other game mentioned "AFL" is a bit like netball, without a net. Or Badmiton without the rackets. its very popular with under developed men in this country....

Alex, you need to assess Bodgy & Blind Freddies comments... especially about under-development....

Within the context that they both reside in Queensland.... where, typically... they resist the concept of "daylight saving time"....

For the well thought out intellectual reasons,.... that it confuses the cows at milking time... and the extra hour of sunlight causes the curtains to fade...

P.S.... the rally cry for the Queensland football side reflects the mental capacity of their supporters...

It was originally.... "Neandathal... Neandathal".....

But due to the difficulty is pronouncing the preceeding, especially twice in a row...

It was replaced with.... "Queenslander... Queenslander"....

Hahaha Oh don't get me started on the D.S. B.S. Rupe. :D
We don't need it up here mate, the sun shines brighter in QLD.
And we have this other thing which gives us longer days, we call it "summer".
:)

Kids up here learn to call out "Queenslander, Queenslander" at a very early age. :thumbright:

Kids in NSW dont learn to call out "New South Wales, New Sout Wales" because the occasions to do are so few and far between :laughing5:

HA! I love a good rivalry! Growing up it was Detroit vs. our cousins across the border in Toronto - Fun times!

So, I found NRL.com and clicked on video highlights only to get a message that said "NRL.com video is not available in your region" brilliant - great way to attract new fans. Anyway, I'm not easily deterred so I found the first half of game 2 on YouTube and gave it a watch. That was the first time I've ever watched a rugby match and it was at least nonstop though I have to admit I didn't understand most of what I was watching. I sorted out a bit like the tries and conversions but when it came to the details, penalties and strategy I was lost.

I may have to convince the wife that we need two take a vacation to Australia. If our lousy governments will let me I'll pack a few cases of my home brew and one of you will have to volunteer to watch a couple of matches, help me drink some beer and explain what the devil is going on.

The great news is you can drink a 6 pack in a single half :drunken: that begs the question - is there ever overtime? :)
