Since the DAAS * are touring after all these years I thought I'd share one of their ditties.

(* minus Richard since it might not go down well in his 'all growed up" job these days)

ps It's not for the devout, politically correct or easily offended among you but it is probably less disturbing than a lot of their other work that I chose not to share... :-P

I thought a few of you might like these guys if you haven't already heard of them. A US band called Clutch, this is their most recent album, they have a whole bunch of great albums though:

Another one who really isn't similar at all to the above, but are absolutely brilliant live are an Australian band called Graveyard Train. One of the best bands I've seen live and I've seen hundreds, try and catch a live show if they are playing near you. :thumbright:

I think this song has gotten the most airtime:

But these two give a slightly better idea of what they are like live, just imagine a wall of sound, full kit, swoit!

How can you not like a band that features a washboard and a chain & hammer as instruments?

I love DAAS :-) they were so unapologetically delinquents back in their heyday. And probably still are ,to be fair ;)

DAAS are very naughty boys, love 'em :thumbright:

Since Tex Perkins is playing on Saturday night I thought I'd share some of his work from the days of The Cruel Sea. Great Aussie music.

Typical of youtube vids there is something not quite right with the sound but it'll have to do I guess...

Tex Perkins is playing on Friday night as well, in very good company and for a great cause. I really wish I was in Melbourne for the next few days.

Nice, good to see. He's playing in Redcliffe, QLD (just north of Brisbane) Sat night but not as part of that fund raiser unfortunately.
It's his latest project, called The Ape. I just checked it out, still kinda got a Cruel Sea sound. Not quite the same though, hoping it will grow on me.

Got some good news for you though PLJ. :headbang:
Just discovered that he's coming to WA pretty soon. I wouldn't expect too many Cruel Sea tracks (they'd probably be playing The Ape's album), fingers crossed for one or two classic tracks for his old fans.

Friday 22nd August - Astor Theatre, Perth

Saturday 23rd August - Mojo's Bar, Fremantle

I'll look up The Ape as soon as I get a chance. Thanks for the lead, Bodgy. Tex Perkins always seems to be working on a new project or collaboration.

Whenever I listen to The Cruel Sea I can't help but wonder why they weren't much more successful than they were. And Tex's earlier band, The Beasts of Bourbon, was a damn fine outfit, as well. Actually, it was the Beasts of Bourbon that wrote and performed a sensational song that I first heard when it was covered by The Drones. It is called Words From a Woman to her Man and is here:

and here is the original for comparison, also excellent, featuring a much younger Tex Perkins up front.

That is great news about the Perth venues being on The Ape's tour schedule; not because I know The Ape at all but because I want to see Tex Perkins perform live before I croak. :) I regularly go down to Mojo's Bar in North Fremantle to watch a band called SpaceManAntics. (The Puddle Princess's son is the drummer).

I was a bit of a fan of Rodriguez back in the day, and I have heard great things about this documentary "Searching For Sugarman" so I'm looking forward to watching it tonight SBS 8.30.

No doubt you enjoyed 'Searching for Sugarman', Rendang. It's quite special.

I caught 'The Ape' with Tex Perkins up front on Friday night, down in Perth. The man can certainly belt out a song.

Yes I enjoyed it, a great story, good to see him finally get the recognition he deserved.
