i would look at multiple insects, not just one... although you can probably get away with having the majority be of one type.
i would also look at finding culturable algaes rather than duckweed, some produce omega 3 and in the oceans at least algae are the starting point for omega 3s in the food chain.

can also simply grow edible water plants in the fishtank if it gets enough light - elodea, thin val, etc.

Well I know of a guy who lived on potatoes for a year. What do you mean troll?

I guess an advantage of using bugs as food is that it excites the fish a little and may get them to eat more than they normally would.

Even that is a crock if he is eating more than one type of potato which the article mentions two types of potatoes. It mentions calling restaurants to see if the chef would make just potatoes for him... did that mean he ate just baked potatoes? If he had mashed potatoes it probably had milk and butter in it... maybe some seasonings... if he had just baked potatoes it probably still had butter and seasonings... if it were fried potatoes (in any form... french fries, hash browns, whatever...) then it included vegetable oil... and probably some ketchup =) there are more than just potatoes sneaking in all over that guy's fad.

Aside from that the entire article is based on some dude telling a "news paper" that he claims to have eaten nothing else... not based on someone actually following him around for a year to make sure he was only eating potatoes.

Nope, it's proof that it can be done. He's obviously a very determined man. Would be boring though, but hey, my dog still gets excited about eating the same thing every day!

thats nice to see, but thats for one year.... that is not living off, he hasnt done it for more than 1 year? he didnt go 5 years? or 20 years? or 40 years? hmmm...

he lost lots of weight in that year?

i wonder what would have happened to him if he were someone who only weighed 60kg to start with.....
i wonder if he has a child and as tried feeding the child on nothing but pure potato and water.....


no living thing can live on one ingredient and live a long life.

as i said, i have heard that you can live off only potatoes, but i think his story of losing 50kg is proof that you cant really live long term only on potatoes, if you could he wouldnt have lost vast amounts of weight - i didnt read the whole article, he may have done it for weight loss with lots of exercise.

but my point is if you are eating normally and weight is falling off so fast then it isnt sustaining you properly, let alone allow you to grow if you are young.

A balanced diet is recommended for all fish health bsfl could make up a large part of the dietary requirement for Tilapia but not just the only feed.

Kiara98 : Obviously TROLL is not a nice thing to be called. So why would you call someone it if you don't know what it means !

"You are what you eat" applies to our fish as well. If you want good healthy nutritious fish, you have to feed them a healthy nutritious diet. we all want the most mass out of what we put into our fish, but feeding them just high protein isn't necessarily healthy and nutritious. looking at the nutritional content of several feed stock particularly for tilapia, a mix of duckweed (Lemna.M) for the high protein percentage, black soldierfly larvae for the high protein and lipid content, and chia seed for the high omega-3 and omega-6 content should be more than sufficient to produce healthy and highly nutritious fish. what's even more exciting about that is that all of those feed stocks are easily produced in quantity by ambitious DIY'ers
