My better half has just ordered a couple of yakon plants/bulbs? from the diggers club which is in Dromana Victoria. I think you have to be a member to buy from them but it is doesn't cost much and they have lots of heirloom plants which is the main reason MBH is a member. Check out www.diggers.com.au. Disclaimer:I have no connection to the club other than as a satisfied customer by assosciation as above.

Thanks Jim but the main problem is getting some of these plants legally into WA is very difficult - it's OK if they are here already but if you look through seed catalogues etc. you will see lots of "Not to WA or Tas" notations.

Hey Rod, if might be worth trying the permaculture forum, I handed out lots to people in W.A. on that group a year or two ago, and someone may have some in W.A. that they have grown up and are willing to share..

They grow OK in Perth, we had a few years out of ours but have moved to a colder area and lost our stock so can't help you with local supply: try www.greenharvest.com.au/Plants/yacon_info.html but I suspect they are still not an acceptable import to WA.

I came back on because the topic was re-activated and the system sent me an email to that effect; what else could I do but come back on and try to help!

(now that I've just managed to get online with a satellite connection thanks to NBN Co.)

I would really like to grow yacon - does anybody have any spare tubers?

Unfortunately they can't be imported into WA - so I need a local grower.
