sounds great F&F, one problem up here is that it is too warm for most of the year for the lettuces or cabbages to form heads. I mostly grow loose leafed lettuces and pick the leaves as I need them for each meal.
So far I haven't managed to get a cabbage past the stage of a few leaves before it gets eaten by something (other than us :x )

a bit of an update

The fish have had a bit of a slow time recently with the cold weather (nights getting down to 5o is cold in anybody's book), but most of our winter is over now ;) and the water is warming up some (mostly high teens now) and the fish are hungry again.

I have been able to see the silvers lately after not having seen them for ages. They are still small, I might have to keep feeding some crushed pellets for them. Some are still only about 10cm long, when the jades all seem to be up around 20cm.

The tomatoes are huge. We keep pruning the bushes back and then you turn around the bush is menacing you again  It seems that the toms are sucking almost all the nutrients out of the system and things like the beans are suffering a bit.

I saw the first eggplant flower this morning. The nasturtiums have started flowering too. The cold has given the peas a lovely push along and they are all doing very well. The strawbs have fruit on them  The capsicum that got planted out a couple of weeks ago has at least two fruit on it, and more flowers.

The celery is starting to look like celery and not leggy parsley.

I have a problem with mealy bugs (they are the furry white jobbies aren't they?) They are savaging the beans and strangely the leeks and chives :? Has anyone worked out what we can spray for these?

I also have to do something about the powdery mildew (probably get out there and spray it ;) )

The grape vine has taken off in a big way, so I trimmed the shoots off to make it spread more and planted the trimmings to get more grapevines!

On a side note we recently got some raspberry canes and I planted them out in separate pots, along with some passionfruit vines and a couple of mulberry cuttings. These will get watered with fish water every few days.

I need more fish! I thought today, while reading, that another ibc with the redclaw (if we ever get them ;) ) and some rainbow fish might work well together. Now the temps are easing I should be able to get more jades from the Tablelands soon.

I went out to a local barra farm today to get another bag of food for the fish. I had a chat to the owner for a while. He is also looking to get some jades soon (a few thousand) and will be up near the Tablelands farm next week. I asked him if he got any, to get me 250 and I would pay him for them when they got here. He has fish transporting gear that we don't have, and it would be so much easier that way (if it works out ;) )
