From the shape it looks more like a silver - but you would be better positionned to know. I just though you might have chucked that one back and that it was not that one you were making reference to when saying all 3 eaten were jades.

Funny!, I thought it was Axl , or are you referring to that green thing on the hook, think that is a caterpillar

okay. lets stir up this debate. on the QDPI site there are drawings of silvers and jades. a defining characteristic in fish species is the number of spines on the dorsal fin. these are the large spiky spines, not the soft rays in the main part of the fin.

the silver perch has 13 spines before the soft rays
the jade perch has 11 spines before the soft rays

closer examination of the fish in the photo titled "Bethanys_fish" shows 11 spines

Maybe it doesn't take on the shape till it gets a bit bigger. This picture from the Ausyfish site is a good one comparing shape of jades and silvers.

thats what i found with mine, hard to tell apart except for the black spot until they got bigger then they stood out like the proverbial

was gunna make the exact same comment vb, but can't post links. Jades in recirc tend to get that more streamlined look, but those raised in ponds get quite rounded, great for the plate. I am jealous as hell, I can't grow them (yet.)

TT - my experience is they also take on that shape in recirc. I also have found they take on the shape before they get to 300 grams. Photos follow:

I like my big fish tank

On Saturday, we had an overnight low of 22oC, a maximum of 35oC. At 4pm the fish tank was 26oC

On Sunday, we had a low of 18oC, and a max of 29oC, the fish tank was 24oC

Today, a min of 21oC, max of 29oC, fish tank 24oC

Lots of very hungry fishies
