Axl, you're using barbless hooks I assume? Makes for smaller holes in the ones you chuck back...

why not net them at feeding time instead of puncturing them unnecessarily?

not really, if you throw the food in one spot, they hit it so hard that it flies everywhere (all around the tank, across the greenhouse)

Actually all of the thrashing about yesterday with the net has resulted in even clearer water than normal. And we could clearly see that 440g is not the largest fish of the bunch :D

Last week the sump pump stopped working, hummed but didn't pump  HSM. Cancel all activities for the day. The Davey pump that we used to use for the sump was pulled out, cleaned, had a part replaced and wouldn't start  HSM (already had one phone call in to Joel, and FIL)

FIL finally managed to get here by 3:30 "don't you try fixing my pump again" (Davey is his ;) ) "why didn't you call me earlier?" :angryfire:

He got Davey fixed. Davey pumps a lot faster than the Ebara. A lot. I didn't want to muck around with the float levels because I'd just have to move them back again when the replacement Ebara arrived. This has meant that at a certain point in the cycle Davey was refilling the tank at the same rate that Bertha was trying to empty it :| The big grow beds spent a lot of time flooded over the last week. The nasturtiums haven't enjoyed that at all :(

The new pump arrived yesterday (in between school runs, running Melb Cup raffles, school and swimming) it was installed late yesterday afternoon.

With the pumps being off kilter, the total water level has been lower than usual, so I bought some Ager and have added about 1000L. The water level is now up where it should be :)

The fish have had a week of very fast water and have been ravenous ALL the time. They were a bit quieter today, but that could also have been because of Bugs :?
