Did not get much done last week. The drought is getting really scary. Next to every day I have an air show overhead, slurries hitting a fire. Tuesday dry lightning for 2 hours, 7 fires.
Durango has a good one going, can see the smoke from 40 miles away.

Got some stuff into the green house, that makes the leaves of the plants rott.

Had to harvest the potatoes a month early, so less what I got last year.

The tower in the wintergarden was a total failure, to wet. Learned a lesson.

The tub and its beds are doing ok. I hung a old sock with some dried Alpaca manure in it. I have a steady 0.5 on ammonia, nitrates are topping out and nitrates are close to it. But the plants are struggling along.
We will see.
Next week I have to go to the Big City.
There is a store for live fish, am checking that one out.

Thunderstorms predicted for to more, hopefully with rain.

I feel the fear too down this way too. We can see the smoke from a fire near Cimarron. Not close enough for tankers though. You guys are in our hopes and prayers.

We are in deep s, Brian. I just hope the monsoon predictions are half right
416 fire is burning rather good, they got the Pleasant View under control.
Called the Sheriff over Memorial twice, a camp fire at Boggy Draw trail head and than neighbors grilling with charcoal. How friking stupid are they. Its no burn, for 8 weeks.
We are at stage 2 which means you can not discharge a fire arm for practice. Neighbor fired for 2 hours today.
Called the Sheriff. Are they all idiots.

Monday morning I checked the tub, it was empty had sprung a leak at the bottom. Lucked out enough water to keep the pump alive and no fish in it jet. The water plants took a beating.

The loss of water is the real point, 400 gallons, that hurt.
But than it fixed a screw up of mine. I used one of my storage tanks for top up. It is above ground and naturally full of algae. I noticed to late what I was doing and had already 100 gallons of the contaminated water in the tub.
Lesson learned.
A friend of mine got me some stuff, which she uses in her coy pond. D solve or so. It kills algae, save for fish and plants. Its a liquid and she gets it out of Denver. I have about 4 weeks of it and will post the resource and the results.

Oh dang! I was warned on here not to use algaecide on aquaponics as it'll kill the good bacteria as well. With our Koi spa pond being in the sun algae is constantly growing. Only the loose algae goes through the ultraviolet light and it isn't loose naturally so yes let us know how it works.

Thanks for the warning. I just use it once to clean up the mess I made. I have to start from the beginning with the cycling, since I lost all the water.

I do my rain dance every morning. Fire 416 is still out of control. Very windy today, 8% humidity and 87F.

I'm so sorry you are having to cope with forest fires. I can totally relate to that terror of forest fires burning so nearby. Back in the drought 4 years ago I was ready to pack it in and make a run to some rain forest someplace.
Are you going to keep Koi in your Spa/pond? I want to set up a few wicking beds next to our Koi spa/pond. This dry weather is throwing a monkey wrench in my enthusiasm for gardening.

Today I was in the biiiiiiig city Farmington NM. Had to go to Sams Club, supplies for the company.
First trip with my new horse. I traded my 2012 Ford transit connect for a 2018 Coca Cola special order, which Coke did not want. Got me a very nice deal for the Coke can. They changed that whole vehicle over the years.
Especially sweet is the 7 gear auto. That was the weak spot on the old one. I can switch it to manual and shift with a switch on the shifter, which is very handy in the hills.
Brian I wanted Goldies, but they did not look to healthy at the Sun Juan Nursery, so I ended up with six coy.
3 Decorative and 3 Butterfly, 3-4 inches, $15 for the D and 20 for the B.
They are very shy.
Stupid as I am, I forgot to buy feed for them.

On my way back, driving to Hesperus, I had a very good lock at 416 from the distance. That is a serious mess.
One could see how that fire exploded like a volcano at times. Big black smoke columns shooting sky wards.
Tomorrow will be just 5-10 miles wind, but Sunday we have FIRE WATCH alarm, 30 miles wind. They will make 416 a real mess.

It is in a very narrow and steep Mt and valley area with thick forest, very difficult terrain.

Oh my, that fire is disastrous. We recently watched Only The Brave, filmed around here I think. This weather makes fires so much fiercer. Your new ride sounds awesome. Are you an advertiser for Coke now, or did they repaint it?

Today will be very windy

Driving through Texas, past Amarillo in the middle of May, saw the smoke just cross statelines (75ish miles) and looked like a bomb had gone off on the other side of the city with it being still miles away.

Had a nice rain on last week, but need the monsoons to come through this year.

A nother lesson learned. last Thursday I put 6 3-4 inches Coy into the tub.
after 3 days 2 were gone. Yesterday I had 4. Today 2.

Well I discovered a rope around one of the big rocks. Pocked it and up came the head. Bull snake and it had one of my Coys in it. My cussing should have started an other wild fire.
I never thought about Bulls. Everything else but not those very rare snakes in my area. With those small fish I created a grocery store for them.

I mean, can you believe that. Whats next Grizzlies fishing my pond.
Tomorrow after work, I will try to catch the 2 that are left, if they are still alive and put them in a tank in the house.

What the f.............

The fires are getting very bad. They closed the San Juan National Forest, completely, stage 3.
We have a stage 1 Command center at the local High School, 150 Hot Shots. NF Fire trucks and crews all over the place. We will get more tomorrow about 100. They, us, everybody is prepping for the thunderstorms coming in. We are all very nervous. But than idiots never die out. Yesterday evening my neighbor did 2 hours of target shooting with a high power. We already had 2 fires because of it. 1/4 miles down the road the Forest got closed, the county is stage 2 and that moron is shooting for 2 hours. I called the Sheriff, but its private property and they can not do anything.

I need a beer, or 2

The forecast for rain this week end looks very good, but it will include those dreaded thunderstorms.

My KuneKune got born last Sunday and tomorrow I will go and have my first look at them and take pics, piggy pics. :D

Have to find a fish solution for the tub and save the fish I might have left.
