If you are not too far away, it would be worth the trip EB. It will be a big event, and probably the last one for a few of the cast & crew.

If you do go you'll need to buy a ticket online, there will be no tickets sold at the gate.

It did turn out to be quite a big event, starting off with a parade in the main street of Clunes, then all the 50 odd bikes plus the replica cars all driving onto the Maryborough Trotting track where the main event was staged.

They re-enacted the car through the caravan stunt.

Yours truly was allotted a car that ran out of fuel and was a little late getting to the trotting track :laughing3:

Yay! This is so cool, congratulations. Wow what a car. Did you get to kick in the blower on the V8 before it ran out of gas? 40 years!! Hard to believe. Just bought the first one and watched it again after I don't know how long, brutal. So many great survival lessons for young bucks, like don't throw a chain after a car that is racing off, unless you want to lose the hand holding it, hahahah.
Thanks JoeBlow you made my day!
I built a Frankenstein hotrod back then, fuel injected 4.3l V6 in a Mercedes 240 D. Had a Glock 9 mounted on the dash disguised to look like a parking brake lever. I thought I was bad ass. Finally got some quality air time in it after falling asleep at the wheel. The highly modified front end held together, but the body was bent pretty good. To boot, I had a nice Mercedes emblem emblazoned on my chest for a few days after that, lol

EB, he had driven all the way over from Perth and filled up that many times, he forgot to top it up again. He and his sons had 3 cars between them at the event and then they all drove up to another event up at Silverton N.S.W. the following weekend, then back home to Perth.

They're pretty keen some of these guys, and the money they spend is just amazing. Not only the cost of building their replicas but the fuel cost of running them all over the country to car shows. Some are trailer-ed to the events which wouldn't be cheap either.

The reason for the 2 caravans was the organisers appealed for a caravan for the re-enactment of the caravan stunt and got 2 offers of a caravan so they went with both.

Boss none of the blowers actually work, they are not functional to save on fuel, and lot are fitted that way to be authentic to the actual car used on the film. I was amazed to see how many of these cars are here in Australia.

I had lunch yesterday with 2 of the organisers of the event and Vince Gil (Nightrider) and one of the stunt guys. The organisers along 2 others who all own replica cars have been filming a documentary interviewing cast & crew for a couple of years now and have been just waiting for their footage from the 40th. Anniversary to complete their doco. That film should be released later in the year.

They reckon they have some stunning footage from a Go-Pro mounted on the top of one of their black interceptors of the trip from Clunes to Maryborough with the people lining the road along the way that they are absolutely thrilled with.

I forgot to ask the organisers how many cars were at the event, they were trying for a record number of Mad Max replica cars. They hold a movie car record from a few years ago at the Royal Melbourne Showgrounds, and were trying for another one at Maryborough.

Dr. Damage I had a journalist mate who came out from France with a French film crew a couple of years ago looking for those exact cars for their documentary to be shown on French television.

They searched for quite a while over a very large area and came up with very little, just bits and pieces, and not what they were looking for.

It's common practice to get rid of any props left over after the shooting is finished, the production company tries to sell off what they can and the rest usually goes to the tip.

Usually the production is setup in a rental premises on or near the location and once the film has been shot there's nowhere to store anything so it's all sold off or dumped, in the desert it was so easy to just bury the props they couldn't unload.

The French journalist has just traveled down from Silverton to the Maryborough event and is currently visiting film locations from Adelaide, Woomera, Coober Pedy, all the way up to Darwin, Broome and across to QLD., and then down to Sydney interviewing people along the way and will finish up in Melbourne and back home to France.

A photo of lunch has just appeared, L-R Peter Axford (Organiser) - Vince Gil (the Night Rider) - Dale Bensch (Stuntman) - Joe Blow (Gaffer) - Emma Em Hall (Oganiser)

Vince was looking very dapper in his hat, boy you should have seen his shoes, the brightest most colourful shoes I ever seen. :headbang:
