Hey has anybody had experience with using PO for bug control? I have a friend that is a master gardener and he uses it in his organic garden. I know that pesticides are a no no in AP systems but this is all natural. And your garden smells minty fresh.

If he is a Master gardener ,, I'd listen to him.

Pepper mint would grow VERY well in AP ,, so grow your own pesticide , sounds good.
AHH make sure the peppermint is in a seperate container ,, it would take over .

He buys peppermint oil from his local hardware store and dilutes it with water. I'm not sure what ratio he uses I'll check with him.

Hardwarestores selling essential oils! Cant imagine buying pepermint oil at Bunnings! But would love to know the ratio and brand of oil he uses. I wonder what eucalyptus oil does to bugs? Plenty of that in Australia!

I thought Dipel was for use against leave chewing caterpillars so I don't see how that would be better against ants?

Peppermint Oil Toxicity

http://www.thegoodscentscompany.com/msds/md100305.html

Toxic to aquatic organisms, may cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment.

Eucalyptus Oil is bad too.

I have noticed a few ants in my GB's over the last week. I do have mint in one of my barrels. I'll try to pay close attention and see if there are ants in that one. Chappo is dead on about the mint taking over. It grows runners under the gravel and then comes up in the middle of your kale :)

Add peppermint oil and water to spray bottle, shake well. Spray in bathrooms and bedrooms after cleaning. Spray near doorways, windows corners. If you want to spray on the plants, then only add 3 drops of peppermint essential oil to per gallon o water.
