Hi all.
New to AP and started a system of my own +- 3 months back and ....... ?! It's been not so goed up till now. System = 2x 1000L. FT(connected). 2x 250L GB (f+drain). 8x 250mm PVC 6m pipe (4x NFT. 4x f+drain)
All is in a greenhouse (12m x6m)

We lost 40 fish of 100 the first 4 weeks,ok now. Then the plants just stopped growing, thinking needed more food, seasol was added. Still the same after 3 weeks. Read something that heat in greenhouses could have the same results, made new windows for better ventulation. And that is where I am at. I will post photo of system on next post. Must say that water in system seem to be ok.
PH - 7.0
A. - 0.5
N2 - 0.2
N3 - 0.5

Welcome!

If those readings are parts per million, then your nitrates are quite low. Which might explain poor plant growth.

You do not have enough filtration for 100 fish. Which could explain fish deaths. Recommendation on this site is no more than 3kg of FULLY GROWN FISH for per 100lt of growbed filtration. If you plan to grow fish to 500grams, then that is 6 fish per 100lt, or 30 fish in your system.

Since they are probably only babies now though, it might have been because you had not completely cycled. System cycling takes 6-8 sometimes in colder temps. When did you get your 100 fish? Zero, 1, or 2 months into the experiment. If it was<2 months, might not have been cycled??? And the ammonia spikes were killing the fish.

Thanks for the welcome

I agree that nitrates are low and I will up my feeding for the fish. The fish gone in on day zero. The 100 fish thing, all that I can say..... Murray strikes again. There is 40 goldfish left +- 40 to 50mm in size. I am in the proses of getting two more GB of +-300L each. Think that will solve filtration out, the water is clear after algea cleared after 9 weeks. Think the problem with growth was heat because new leaves are apearing on most of the plants after windows gone in the weekend and the temp came down in greenhouse (tunnel as we call it).

Ron
